2.4 CNC Backup using Panel i / Panel i for Automotive
This chapter describes a Backup procedure of FANUC / GE Fanuc CNC Units, which are
connected to Front-end PCs like the FANUC Panel i or Panel i for Automotive. This configuration
is used within many Automotive projects. On those installations the PC data and applications are
usually saved by creating an image file of the whole hard disk. Moreover, the PC is often
connected over a network, where a supervisory system can get data of the Front-end PC’s of the
machines.
Therefore it is recommended to save the data and application programs of the CNC onto the PC,
where they can be included in an Image file of the hard disk or where they can be sent over the
network to a supervisory system.

In the configuration above, FANUC’s High Speed Serial Bus (HSSB) connection is used for
transferring the CNC Backup data.
Note: There are various methods of CNC Backup procedures possible. In this document only
the most recommended method for the Automotive Industry is described.
Note: When a CNC without Panel i or Panel i for Automotive is used, the standard CNC
Backup procedure must be applied. A PC-Backup is not applicable.
