Changing BIOS setting in the FANUC OPEN CNC
Outline
The power management of the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) in the FANUC OPEN CNC system
such as MMC-IV, Intelligent Terminal, Series 160i/180i/210i is controlled by the BIOS software
(Basic Input Output System). In accordance with present BIOS setting value of factory
shipment, the BIOS always rotates the disk inside the HDD even if the HDD does not be
accessed. By changing BIOS setting, it is possible to change the control method of the HDD as
the disk is stopped when the HDD does not be accessed. And the life of the HDD may become
longer than the life of the HDD not changed the BIOS setting.
This report describes about BIOS setting value that as BIOS stops the turn of the disk when
BIOS detects a condition without occurring access to the HDD for about 10 minutes.
Application
This report applies to the following HDD unit.

Regarding other OPEN CNC series and the HDD units, we will gradually release the
information by the Technical Reports if the evaluations got finished. Please do not apply to
other OPEN CNC series than New MMC-IV in the present.
Procedure
1. Beginning of the Setup utility
1) Check the power is off and connect an IBM PC-AT compatible keyboard (PS/2 type) to
the connector CD32A of the OPEN CNC system.
2) Please turn the power on.
3) After the self-test such as the memory check is finished automatically, the Startup
screen shown in the next page is displayed. Please push the [F1] key while the Startup
screen is displayed and then the Setup utility begins. If it is not displayed, please turn
off and on the power again.
