1.1 ROTARY ENCODER SELECTION
For the FANUC SYNCHRONOUS BUILT-IN SERVO MOTOR Dis
series, motors are controlled using feedback signals from a rotary
encoder. There are two types of rotary encoders: an incremental
encoder and absolute encoder, each of which has the following
haracteristics.
c
• Incremental rotary encoder
- Encoder zero point (Z phase) establishment operation is
required.
- The Pole Position Detection Function (CNC software
option) is required.
- High resolution is achieved because the scale signal is
internally multiplied.
elected. - The distance coded encoder can be s
- The resolution can be made higher.
• Absolute rotary encoder
- CZi Sensor available. See part I, “CZi Sensor”.
- Encoder zero point (Z phase) establishment operation is not
required.
- Wiring can be saved because it is directly connected to the
servo amplifier.
- The model supporting the FANUC serial interface is
selected.
- The resolution is relatively low.
The resolution of a rotary encoder must be approximately ten to
twenty times better than the target precision.
