7. CONNECTION TO PERIPHERALS
43
The dust protected type DPL/MDI (referred to as DPL/MDI in the
remainder of this manual) is used to perform the maintenance of the
Digital Servo Adapter. If the HSSB communication between the Digital
Servo Adapter and the customer control unit fails for some reason, the
DPL/MDI can be used to check the status and attempt recovery.
To connect the Digital Servo Adapter to the DPL/MDI, a DPL/MDI
adapter or equivalent is required. A DPL/MDI connection port must be
provided on the cabinet so that the DPL/MDI can be connected if required.
A cable can be connected to and disconnected from the DPL/MDI
connection port at any time (detachable connection).

NOTE
1 If the DPL/MDI cannot be connected while the Digital Servo Adapter is turned ON, it may not
be possible to investigate the situation in the event of a fault.
2 It is not possible to connect cable J161 to connector JD40 while the Digital Servo Adapter is
ON.
The DPL/MDI adapter is designed to convert the 20–pin PCR connector
(JD40) of the Digital Servo Adapter to a 15–pin D–SUB connector. The
DPL/MDI adapter is similar in shape to the RS–232–C punch panel. The
drilling of the mounting holes on the cabinet is the same as that for the
punch panel. Refer to Figure 6, Punch Panel, in Appendix A.
The following types of DPL/MDI adapter are available from FANUC.
Unit drawing No. Cable length Cable resistance
