4.3 MDI OPERATION
In MDI mode, a program of up to 256 characters can be created and
executed from MDI in the same way as for normal programs.
MDI mode is used for simple test operation.
The FS15 type or FS16 type can be selected by setting bit 0 (M16) of
parameter No. 2458.
A procedure is explained below as an example. For the actual
operation, refer to the relevant manual supplied by the machine tool
builder.
MDI operation (for the FS15 type)
- Selecting mode
Set MDI mode.
- Creating a program
A program is created on the program screen. Display the program
screen by following the program display procedure explained in II-
10.1.
Create a program in the same way as for normal programs.
The same operation as that for ordinary program editing operation is
possible.
For details of program editing, see the description in II-8.
Even when M99 or M30 is specified in the last block, control does not
return to the top of the program at the end of operation.
- Starting MDI operation
Pressing the cycle start button on the machine operator’s panel starts
MDI operation.
The program is always started from its top regardless of the cursor
position.
- Stopping/terminating MDI operation
There are two methods of stopping/terminating MDI operation: using a
stop command in a program and using a key on the machine operator’s
panel.

operation stop/termination in II-4.6.
MDI operation program (for the FS15 type)
- Program erasure
A program created in MDI mode is erased when:
- Reset key
RESET
is pressed.
